Tile Shower Installation Guide
A tile shower is a system, not just a decorative surface. Waterproofing, slope, substrate, layout, mortar coverage and movement joints all contribute to the finished installation.
Build a solid substrate
Walls and floors need to be stable and suitable for the selected waterproofing and tile system.
Waterproof before tile
Water management should be complete before tile starts. Corners, seams, niches, benches, valves and penetrations deserve special attention.
Plan layout before setting tile
Center lines, grout joints, niche location, cuts, trim and transitions should be considered before the first row is installed.
Grout and sealant are finish details
Grout color, change-of-plane sealant and clean edge work have a large visual impact and should be treated as part of the installation, not an afterthought.
