Understand the decision
Doors, windows, niches and fixtures can interrupt a repeating pattern. A centered layout may create narrow pieces at one edge, while an adjusted start can improve the balance. The actual tile dimensions and product guidance should inform the proposed arrangement.

Plan the details
Start by identifying the feature or viewing direction that the layout is intended to emphasize. Then review edge cuts, openings, corners and connections to other surfaces. Confirm whether the mock-up uses the actual tile size and proposed joint arrangement or is only a visual concept. A drawing may look balanced while omitting an important installed dimension, so its purpose should be clear. Discuss visible cuts and pattern direction before approving the layout. Record any agreed adjustments on the same drawing rather than in disconnected messages. If product dimensions or site conditions change, review the dependent layout again. Approval should describe a workable arrangement for the actual surface, not an image assumed to override every installation constraint.
Before work begins
- Identify the main viewing position.
- Mark retained fixtures.
- Review the actual tile, joint and edge components together.
Agree the sequence
- Establish the focal point.
- Compare cut relationships across the full area.
- Approve the marked layout before setting begins.
Avoid common problems
Do not approve a layout from one photograph that excludes the difficult corner or doorway. Moving a starting line after installation can affect many pieces and completed details.
Review the result
Check the agreed pattern at the focal point and secondary views. Confirm how interruptions and exposed edges were handled, and preserve the approved drawing or photographs with the selection log.
Homeowner questions
Can all edges have full tiles?
Usually the room dimensions and pattern require some cuts. Review which cuts are most visible and compare practical alternatives before committing.
Does a simple rendering establish exact tile cuts?
Only if its dimensions and purpose support that use and the responsible installer confirms it. Many images are conceptual. Review actual product and site measurements before treating a visual mock-up as a final setting-out instruction.
Discuss your project
Send product dimensions and preferred focal points. Ask whether a layout review and representative mock-up are included.
